Dr. Susan L. Smalley, Ph.D.

Susan L. Smalley, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Bio-behavioral Sciences at UCLA and Co-Director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center in the Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior. She is a board certified Medical Geneticist who specializes in the genetics of psychiatric disorders, particularly those with onset in childhood or adolescence.

Her research centers on the genetics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and her lab is one of the leading labs conducting gene mapping studies in ADHD.

In addition to genetic research, her interests include the incorporation of genetics into integrative treatments and preventions for childhood-onset behavioral disorders using both traditional and complementary medicine.

Her lab is currently investigating several novel approaches in the treatment and prevention of ADHD including the study of mindful awareness practices (MAPs) in the treatment of ADHD.
